OUR COMMITMENT TO PRESERVING THE ENVIRONMENT

At Penrose, we combine our passion for print with caring for the planet, from using sustainable print materials to reducing our carbon footprint. Our efforts to limit our impact on our environment are outlined below.

Environmentally sourced paper and board

All the materials that pass through our presses are certified materials, ensuring that we only print on materials which have been ethically sourced from sustainable forests.

We offer a range of environmentally friendly materials, including pulp-free papers – all of which can be carbon captured and balanced.

FSC® Certified (Forest Stewardship Council®)

As an environmentally conscientious printing company, we have taken steps to become an FSC Certified (FSC-C178415) print company.

Deforestation and unsustainable forestry are a threat both to the world’s forests and to our industry itself. The printing industry relies on thriving forests to meet demand. The FSC certification system can help secure a long-term source of paper through responsible management of forests.

FSC-certified papers are widely available; most carry either an FSC Mix or an FSC Recycled claim. FSC Mix products can contain a mix of virgin and recycled fibre and may include limited amounts of controlled wood. FSC Recycled products are made using verified reclaimed materials.

Why is it essential to apply the FSC label?

Specifying FSC materials and asking us to apply an FSC label to our printed collateral assure your customers that your business has chosen to source responsibly. It can also enhance your Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) policy and increase credibility with stakeholders, governments, NGOs, and the general public.

Carbon Capture Programme

The Penrose Group is offering our customers and their clients the opportunity to capture the CO2 emissions from their paper purchase by planting native woodland right here in the UK through the Woodland Trust and the Woodland Carbon scheme.

The programme is a method of mitigating CO2 emissions while providing a low-cost solution for organisations to reduce their carbon output, demonstrating their values and responsible environmental approach. For all carbon-captured projects, the ‘Planting trees to catch carbon’ logo is available for use on the artwork, with a unique issue number.

Either job-specific or over a period of time, we will supply you with a Carbon Capture Certificate detailing the amount of new native woodland created and the levels of carbon dioxide removed. This information will add kudos when included in your marketing assets as increasingly companies are looking to partner with environmentally sound suppliers.

Carbon Balancing

Carbon balancing is another process for organisations to reduce the carbon impact of their printed communications, reducing their carbon footprint and impacts on climate change. Fundamentally, carbon balancing involves calculating the carbon output of the paper in its manufacture and distribution and balancing that output by planting trees and preserving woodlands.  For all carbon balanced projects, the ‘World Land Trust’ logo is available to use on the artwork.

Reduce, reuse and recycle

As part of our ISO 14001 Environmental Management System, we are continually looking into methods to reduce waste, reuse and recycle. Our robust and stringent production process ensures that minimal waste is produced. Our presses make ready using minimum time and sheets, benefiting the environment and client.

All materials that cannot be reused or recycled are disposed of by approved waste management companies.

Proud to be a member of Two Sides

Two Sides is an initiative by companies from the graphic communications supply chain including forestry, pulp, paper, inks and chemicals, pre-press, press, finishing, publishing, printing envelopes and postal operators. The common goal is to promote the sustainability of the graphic communications supply chain and dispel common environmental misconceptions by providing verifiable information on why print and paper is an attractive, practical and sustainable communication medium.

Love Paper Campaign

Love Paper is a global campaign promoting the sustainable and attractive attributes of print, paper and paper packaging.

The campaign seeks to tell consumers across the world all the positive stories about paper, print and paper packaging from its environmental credentials to its ability to improve mental wellbeing, learning and enhance creativity.

Even in today’s digital world, paper remains unique in its ability to touch our lives. Paper is renewable, recyclable, and the natural support of new ideas and creativity.

We are all becoming more conscious of our purchases’ environmental impacts; paper is the natural choice for sustainable packaging.
